Acorns Nursery has a parent committee and charitable status,
which makes us affordable and approachable.
Our Ethos
Our ethos recognises, cares for and values the potential of each and every child that attends Acorns nursery.
At the core of our ethos, is the belief that every child needs time to explore in a safe and happy environment for them to play, make friends and experience awe and wonder in order to help them become more confident, sociable and accepting of others needs and feelings. We aim to make our nursery school experience positive and stimulating for every child, giving them a secure foundation to build a love of learning for their future.
At Acorns Nursery, we provide activities that stimulate the children’s learning experience through investigation, encouraging children to manage risk taking through planning with adult support and encouragement. As educators we seek to develop children’s natural curiosity, creativity and the ability for them to make connections.
We believe that happy children learn best, and our team are enthusiastic and supportive of all the children and enjoy sharing in their achievements, progress and ongoing development.
Our Location
Acorns Nursery is situated in the village hall of Shackleford.
This lovely rural location also has two outdoor areas:
- a fenced area by the entrance which we use as a moving parts garden where our children use their imagination and gross motor skills to create and extend role play.
- a large grassed area with a sandpit, a wooden pirate ship, the willow den, a climbing wall and mini mountain a mud kitchen and much much more.
We are very fortunate to have farmland and the church both just a few minutes walk away from Acorns. We take groups of children to both throughout the year and enjoy these environments for all aspects of learning and play.
We are currently developing our own wooded area at the rear of our garden to create a natural learning environment to inspire inquisitive play and experience awe and wonder. We are able to promote physical play and problem solving in our children by creating shelters from tarpaulins and the surrounding trees.
We genuinely love watching all of our Acorns children learn and grow during their time with us and we aim to prepare them for the next chapter in their adventure by leaving us:
as powerful learners
confident and independent with good social skills
with an understanding of boundaries whilst valuing themselves and others
as clear, confident communicators
happy!
